How Covid-19 is reshaping the activities of every membership organisation

In April 2020 we asked a selection of UK-based membership organisations how Covid-19 was impacting on the work that they do. We wanted to know the activities that were being rescheduled and the new communication channels that were being ramped up to better connect with members during this unprecedented period of social and economic change.

The responses that we received underlined, as we expected, a universal shift away from live events but also revealed an unexpected increase in membership numbers for many organisations. At a time when people are physically isolated communities, whether these are based around professional or personal passions are becoming ever-more important.

We asked respondents about their biggest concerns for 2020

“Consolidating all user data from increased online activity into one place, to gain better overview of what is most value to members.”
“The biggest challenge will come at the end of the year when subscriptions need to be renewed. With budgets hit, there is a concern membership will drop which is our core income.”
“Supporting and engaging members virtually during the crisis, especially those that were most active in our groups, branches and committees.”
