15 inspiring ideas that made us smile in 2022

2022 certainly felt like the most normal year we’ve had for ages, despite the odd curveball here and there (we did have three prime ministers in three months, afterall).

But, politics aside, 2022 was an exciting year, and our team here at Think had so much to celebrate. We launched several innovative projects and creative campaigns, worked hand-in-hand with our wonderful clients, and snagged an impressive amount of industry awards – just to name a few things! So, to see out the year, we’ve rounded up our favourite projects that made us the most proud in 2022…

The NICEIC Works for Me

Working in partnership with NICEIC, we launched our multi-channel NICEIC Works For Me campaign this year. Harnessing the help of numerous contractors within the NICEIC’s community, we’ve seen a brilliant response to our campaign, with an 80% increase in impressions and a 300% increase in interactions so far.

Putting a baby polar bear in the spotlight

Who can resist cute baby animals? We started working with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland this year and our first issue of their new member magazine featured this adorable cover shoot of the new baby polar bear at the Highland Wildlife Park.

Starting a social movement

Launching in the new year, we’re working in partnership with Cadent to put the ‘ability’ back in ‘vulnerability’. Our campaign, We Are Able, puts those considered vulnerable at the centre, sharing their powerful stories alongside practical advice and helpful resources to enable people to remain safe and independent in their homes.

Our campaign kicked off on December 3rd to celebrate the International Day of People with Disabilities and will be running throughout the year ahead – find out here how you can get involved right now.

Building the best membership magazine

Created to unify and engage members, Property is the magazine for the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA). By successfully blending hard-hitting topics, compelling case studies and policy updates, Property impressed numerous times this year.

Alongside receiving a special ‘Highly Commended’ mention at the IPN awards, Property took home Publication of the Year at the TAF Best Practice Awards; Best Magazine at the National Association Awards, and Best Publication (Silver) at the Association Excellence Awards. Could this be the best membership magazine of 2022?

More Friends for the CMI

The Chartered Management Institute’s free Insight channel plays home to practical content that inspires managers to become their best – but readers can only access full articles by becoming a Friend of CMI. By introducing this data capture mechanism, we’ve provided the CMI with an incredibly rich source of leads – they’re now seeing at least 500 ‘Friend’ requests each month!

Dunking optometrists in a lake

How do you get three optometrists in a lake? By producing a sustainability-themed edition of Optometry Today, of course!

To mark this important issue, we commissioned a photographer and gathered 3 Wales-based optometrists – committed to improving the industry’s sustainability – at a lake in Wales. The result? An impactful cover shot showing them up to their eyes in the water!

Rethinking, redesigning, and relaunching

We revitalised the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology’s newsletter programme, with a brand new strategy and personalisation; this saw a 10% increase in the IMarEST’s open rates.

We helped the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation turn their weekly news digest into four new bi-weekly newsletters. As a result of better content, planning, and personalisation, we saw open rates increase from an average of 19% all the way up to a whopping 39%!

Finally, we evolved Petplan’s newsletter with high-quality illustrations, in-depth informative articles, videos, and hyper-personalised content. This produced significant improvement in clicks within email and a significant increase in organic traffic.

Producing a top Times podcast

NTS podcast on mobile

What does it take to produce one of the best podcasts in membership? A punchy theme, a strong identity, and fantastic stories, typified by our podcast for National Trust for Scotland, Love Scotland.

Since relaunching this podcast, Love Scotland has seen a 240% increase in listeners, as well as bagging Best Podcast and Best Brand Extension at the PPA Scotland Awards. In August this year, Love Scotland was chosen as The Times’ Podcast of the Week, too!

Running virtual masterclasses

To offer our clients some useful insights – and to give our brilliant experts the chance to share their learnings – we ran three virtual masterclasses in 2022.

The first featured Think’s events partner, William Thomson, discussing what the future holds for events. Next up, we had our very own customer-journey expert and email consultant, Adeola Sole, showing attendees how to drive deep member engagement with email marketing. As a direct result of this, we conducted several detailed email health checks for our clients, looking at user journeys, key data measurements, and content testing plans.

To round off the year, over 80 attendees joined our own Executive Director Jackie Scully for her step-by-step guide on how to develop a content strategy – read about that here, and keep your eyes on your email to hear about our next webinar event.

Celebrating five decades of making a difference

To celebrate the Association for Project Management’s 50th year, we produced the 50 Projects for a Better Future book, listing 50 inspiring projects from the last five decades. Details of the 50 projects were launched at APM’s Power of Projects conference in the summer – find out all about it here.

Checking in with Channel 4

Our client, Benenden Health, partnered with Channel 4 this year, to get the nation checking in on their health. Their check-in hub contains useful health and wellbeing articles to get people thinking about their health. Plus, we even spoke to Channel 4’s Davina McCall, Rylan Clark, Alex Brooker and AJ Odudu about their own health experiences.

Launching Re:member 2022

With responses from 215 membership organisations, the latest edition of our industry-leading Re:member research, looking at trends in membership communications, is our biggest ever!

The findings show that, while recovery has been strong (particularly around face-to-face events), innovation has stalled and levels of confidence around content strategy, digital skills and data are low. For more details, look out for our Re:member events coming in Q1.

Filming fiery case studies

Play Video

To highlight the benefits of using Benenden healthcare in the workplace, we filmed the team at Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue talking about how they have supported their staff by using the services that Benenden Health offer.

An award winning cover

The story behind the ‘playboy’ image that won Cover of the Year for the Royal Photographic Society at the PPA Scotland Awards was an interesting one. This stunning shot was taken by a Russian photographer who was forced to flee Moscow, due to his sexuality, during the production of the issue. The final cover captured the attention of readers and won the public vote at the PPA awards.

Showreel magic

As we increasingly move towards a more digital world, we thought it was time to produce a brand-new showreel to highlight all of the brilliant services we offer at Think.

And don’t just take our word for it…

We don’t want to brag, but 2022 really highlighted our team’s awesomeness, judging by the 13 awards we received this year.

While scooping both PPA Content Agency of the Year and Memcom Agency of the Year was absolutely epic – the latter of which was the fourth time we’ve won in six years! – we were also fortunate enough to take home five wins at the PPA Scotland Awards, two wins at the Association Excellence Awards, and a win at the IPN Awards too – not bad at all!
